Marcus Belgrave was my dear friend, a true jazz legend and iconic figure in the Detroit music scene dating back to the late 50's & 60's. He taught an mentored some of today's major jazz artist like Grammy Award winning Saxophonist Kenny Garret & James Carter, Jazz Violinist Regina Carter and Basses Marion Hayden. Marcus hired me to play in his band in the early 2000 introducing me to Detroit's jazz scene and players. I later went on to hire Marcus to play in some of my bands and for some of Lansing's major Jazz Events
Tyrone Johnson in Paris. During my first trip to Paris, I happen to stumble into a jazz club setting in a downstairs “dungeon” like room where the band was playing a Charlie Parker tune, and the dance floor was jammed packed with people dancing (a very unusual sight). I knew this was my kind of place and ended up sitting in with that jazz group and played my soprano with them for the rest of the night, and was invited to return the following evening. The name of this club is Le Caveau De La Huchette, located in the Latin Quarter section of town. I’ve played a number of jazz rooms in Paris during the 2000’s but always returned to Le Caveau and developed many fond memories of the people and musicians I met there.
